JUNIOR ROWING PROGRAMS
A wide variety of competitive rowing opportunities are available to Guelph area youth between 13 and 18. Our focus is on teaching youth the fundamental skills of rowing and providing them with opportunities to compete successfully against their peers.

Age Categories - Junior Competitive
- Junior "B" - the Competitor shall be not more than sixteen (16) years of age at any time during the calendar year in which the Regatta is staged;
- Junior - the Competitor shall be not more than eighteen (18) years of age at any time during the calendar year the Regatta is staged;

MANDATORY SAFETY PROGRAM
Each year all athletes must complete Parts A, B and C of the GRC Safety Program. Program elelments include a supervised viewing of the
Rowing Canada Safety Video, successful completion of a
Swim Test, attendance at a
Site Safety & Emergency Procedures Meeting. All athletes, coaches and volunteers
must submit a signed
GRC Safety Program Form to a club official
prior to going on-the-water. Athletes who cannot successfully complete the swim test will not be allowed to row on the water.
Summer Competitive Junior Rowing
WHO: This program is for athletes who are 15-18 years of age and have rowed previously. Younger participants may be admitted as coxswains for Jr. and/or Sr. Crews.
WHAT: Focus will be on improving technical abilities of rowers and preparing them to be successful in regional and
national regattas.
Training will draw on principles of Training-to-Train and Learn-to-Compete phases of Long-term
Athlete Development model(LTAD).
WHEN: The program will run from early June through the first week of August.
Training will be in early mornings Monday-Friday, and Saturday - times TBD
COACHES: Cody Jackson will be working with the Jr.s this summer along with Dave Leger (Sr. Men) and Head Coach Alan Oldham (Sr. Women).

1. FALL JUNIOR ROWING SCHOOL
WHO: This program is designed for athletes 13-18 years of age as an introduction to the sport of rowing!
WHAT: Focus on Learn-to-Train and Training-to-Train phases of Long term Athlete Development (LTAD).
Participants in this introductory rowing program will learn...
- Fundamental rowing technique
- Introduction to training & Racing
- Care and maintenance of equipment - racing shell and oars
- Proper boat handling and dock procedures
- Safety rules and navigational protocols
WHEN: The program will run from September-October; Specific dates TBA.
Training will be in the early evening (5:45 pm) Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings (8:00 am)
WHERE: Guelph Rowing Club Boat House, Guelph Lake

2. FALL COMPETITIVE JUNIOR ROWING
WHO: This program is for athletes who are 14 to 18 years of age and have rowed previously.
WHAT: Focus on Training-to-Train and Learn-to-Compete phases of Long term Athlete Development (LTAD).
WHEN: The program will run from September-October; Specific dates TBA.

Exemption - Athletes who paid full membership fees through the High School Upgrade for Junior Summer Rowing;
Before registering, please read the on-line registration instructions below.
Attention parents/guardians: This rowing program meets the qualifying criteria for the
Children's Fitness Tax Credit; check the Canadian Revenue Agency web page to see if your chlid qualitfies - if so, the registration fees for this program are eligible for the tax credit.
Fees include:
- Registration with Rowing Canada for insurance purposes,
- Registration with Row Ontario for insurance purposes,
- Regatta Entry fees,
- Regatta Administration fees,
- Part season 'gate pass' into Grand River Conservation Park,
- Club Registration fees
Fees do not include:
- Unisuit,
- Regatta accomodations,
- Food and travel.

Membership Profile: If you are a new member, create a new membership profile by filling-in the information requested on page 1 of the on-line registration system. If you already have a membership profile, then simply sign-in using your email address and password.

Select Program(s): The next page lists all of the GRC Programs. Scroll through the list and choose the program(s) you wish to register for by clicking the box beside the program name.
Attention coxswains!: Scroll down the Programs list and select Coxswains (non-rowing, non-varsity)

Authorization and Waiver: Read these pages carefully and click the 'Acceptance' to continue. On the next and final page click 'Finish' and an email will be sent to you confirming your registration was successful.

Forms: Download, print and complete the following forms...
- Submit Forms and Cheque: Once you have registered on-line, submit your forms and cheque (if did not use PAYPAL) to the coach on the first day of the program; For timely registration, please DO NOT mail your registration as instructed by the On-Line Registration system; Cheques should be payable to the GUELPH ROWING CLUB.
