PROGRAM
  • Training for competitive rowing is really a year-round operation, but in Canada we are restricted by winter ice.  On-water training begins in April (through the High Schools for Jrs.), however university and college students from outside the region are welcome to join the programme when they return from school in early June.  The fall racing season (including the National Rowing Championships) will be treated seperately from the summer season for now.
  • Initial team selections will be made in early to mid June with final Ontario Chamionships and Royal Canadian Henley crews determined mid July.  Selections will be based on a number of assessments of fitness and ability including erg testing and on-water technique and coachability.
  • Regatta dates and other important dates are provided below.
  • Athletes will be expected to attend all competitions on the schedule up to and including RowOntario.
Athletes selected for Royal Canadian Henley crews will be expected to compete August 4-9th.
  • If you anticipate problems please advise the Head Coach prior to enrolling.
  • Generally athletes will race in multiple events at each regatta. Please set work or vacation schedules around these dates.
  • Selection of crews will take place during June; Minimum standards are currently being finalized for selection to Henley bound crews.
  • The introduction of minimum standards is intended as a means of increasing the quality of competitor produced by the Guelph Rowing Club.
  • These standards will be released in early May and will be set so as to maximize the likelihood that crews place among the top 12 at Royal Canadian Henley.
  • As the culminating event in the domestic racing season we believe success at Royal Canadian Henley to be the hallmark of a successful club.
  • We encourage developing athletes to join the program; We are excited to help you in your development and see developing athletes as critical to our future success.
  • The club will attend additional regattas in the fall including the NRC regatta during the last week of Septmeber.
  • Complete fall schedule will be finalized later in the season.
  • Practice schedules will be set at the first meeting, however typically includes 9-15 trainings per week.
  • Questions regarding training, boating, selection, events... should be directed to Alan Oldham, Head Coach
