ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY
High School Age Categories
- Junior: Under 16 years of age on January 1
- Senior: Under 19 years of age on January 1
Weight Categories
- Women: Lightweight 59 kgs (129 lbs), Midweight 63 kgs (138 lbs), and Open Weight
- Men: Lightweight 66 kgs (145 lbs), Midweight 72 kgs (158 lbs), and Open Weight
MANDATORY SAFETY PROGRAM
- Every year all athletes must complete Parts A, B and C of the GRC Safety Program.
- Program elements include a supervised viewing of the Rowing Canada Safety Video (Part A), successful completion of a Swim Test (Part B), attendance at a Site Safety & Emergency Procedures Meeting (Part C).
- All athletes, coaches and volunteers must submit a signed GRC Safety Program Form to a club official prior to going on-the-water.
- Athletes who cannot complete the swim test will not be allowed to row on the water.

GRC High School Rowing Program
This document outlines the program goals, requirements for starting/maintaining a rowing program for student athletes at a school, safety protocols, program descriptions, minimum fitness criteria, athlete and crew commitment, and the Code of Conduct.
PLEASE BE ADVISED The Upper Grand District School Board, Wellington Catholic District School Board and St. John's-Kilmarnock School (SJK) do not recognize rowing as an official team sport at this time. This High School Rowing Program and associated events are under the control and supervision of the Guelph Rowing Club (GRC) and are not school supervised events. Participants are insured through their registration with
Row Ontario and
Rowing Canada. The school boards and SJK do not assume any responsibility or liability for injury or death associated with the GRC High School Rowing Program.
TRAINING INFORMATION
- Monthly Training Schedules are provided by coaches and posted in the YMCA rowing training binder.
- Indoor workouts are conducted at the YMCA, Monday-Friday, 6:00-7:30AM; go to the Guelph YMCA web site for membership fees and YMCA program schedules. Bring your student ID for YMCA registration.

REGISTRATION
Registration Period and Fees
Attention parents/guardians: This rowing program meets the qualifying criteria for the Children's Fitness Tax Credit; check the Canadian Revenue Agency web page to see if your child qualitfies - if so, the registration fees for this program are eligible for the tax credit.
Fees include:
- Registration with Rowing Canada for insurance purposes
- Registration with Row Ontario for insurance purposes
- School rowing T-shirt
- Rowing tank fees
- Part Season 'gate pass' (to June 15) to the Grand River Conservation Park
- Club Registrations fees - access to GRC equipement and facilities
- Regatta entry fees and regatta administrative fees (New in 2010)
- High School Rowing membership ends on June 15. Athletes who wish to continue rowing competitively during the summer season as Juniors or Seniors should register with those programs by the posted deadline.
Fees do not include:
- Gym Membership (YMCA approx. $30 intiation fee, $30/month)
- Unisuit (approx. $90)
- Regatta scratch fees
- Regatta accomodations
- Food and travel
On-Line Registration Instructions

Membership Profile: If you are a new member, create a new membership profile on page 1 of the on-line registration system. If you already have a membership profile, then simply sign-in using your email address and password.
PLEASE NOTE: Members are responsible for maintaining an updated Membership Profile, e.g., change of address, phone# or email.

Select Program(s): The next page lists all of the GRC Programs. Scroll through the list and choose the program(s) you wish to register for by clicking the box beside the program name.
Attention coxswains: Scroll down the Programs list and select Coxswains (non-rowing, non-varsity); coxies do not pay a registration fee.

Authorization and Waiver: Read these pages carefully and click the 'Acceptance' to continue. On the next and final page click 'Finish' and an email will be sent to you confirming your registration was successful.

Forms: Download, print and complete the following forms...
- Submit Forms and Cheque: Once you have registered on-line, submit your forms (and cheque, if did not use PAYPAL) to the coach on the first day of the program; For timely registration, please DO NOT mail your registration as instructed by the On-Line Registration system; Cheques should be payable to the GUELPH ROWING CLUB.
