Current Guelph Lake Levels

The Guelph Rowing Club gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation

Welcome to the Guelph Rowing Club

The Guelph Rowing Club was founded in 1999 on the shores of Guelph Lake. Since our modest beginnings, we are now in our 10th year of operation and are one of the largest and fastest growing rowing clubs in Ontario. Its location on the 5 km long Guelph Lake has proven to be one of the best rowing venues in Ontario.

Sweeping and sculling programs are both very popular for our broad base of over 250 members aged 14 to 70+ with programs such as High School youth, “Learn to Row”, adult recreational, Masters and The University of Guelph Gryphon Varsity program. Guelph rowers have competed and won medals in many national and international regattas.

November 2007 marked the completion of Stage 1 of the first phase of the GRC Boathouse & Guelph Lake Recreation Centre. This major project could only have been undertaken with assistance from the Grand River Conservation Authority, City of Guelph, Waterloo Wellington Community Futures and especially our volunteers & members. Upon completion of this project, coupled with the fine rowing venue at the lake, the GRC will attract more newcomers and experienced rowers, as well as provincial and national regattas. Once Phase II is completed, the complex will provide space for meetings, training, and social events, not only for the GRC but to other sports & activities at Guelph Lake. Fundraising from membership and corporate sponsors actively continues, as we grow closer to the completion of the complex.

A recent grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will support a full time coach, who along with our volunteers will be able to provide more activities, increase recreational and competitive programs in both sculling and sweeping. Our objective is to promote and increase physical activity for people of all ages and abilities through the sport of rowing in Guelph and Wellington County.

Another first for the Guelph Rowing Club is the hosting of one of the three CORA (Central Ontario Rowing Association) regattas, which was held on June 28th, 2008.

Rowing can play a major role in your physical fitness and well being. The sport provides individuals the boost needed to change lifestyles and become active year round both on the water and on land. Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just a buzz word anymore – it IS a lifestyle and rowing is a safe, low impact and friendly way to live it. You don’t have take only our word for it - call the Heart & Stroke Foundation to find out more about the health benefits of rowing and register with them for the program. Each year the 70 or so people who learn to row are not only helping themselves, but many others as the program raises approximately $7,000 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation each year.

The Guelph Rowing Club welcomes new members all year long. If you are interested or know someone who may be, please
